December this year brings to Medgidia another cooperation agreement, concluded this time with Favara city in the province of Agrigento, Sicily (Italy). The agreement will be signed this week in the Sicilian city by representatives of the two cities, Mr. Marian Iordache, Mayor of Medgidia and Mr. Domenico Russelo, Mayor of Favara.
According to the protocol, the cooperation between the two municipalities involves local governance and public administration, economic programs and driving local production and delivery of services.
A key component is the cooperation for European fundraising and promotion of EU projects. Culture and education are also areas represented in this protocol which will be prospected and advertised through joint programs and actions.
Medgidia also established twinning with Yalova, from Yalova province, Turkey, through the twinning agreement signed on March 30, 2002, and with Zhumadian city, Henan province - China, following the signing of the twinning on September 30, 2008. On May 23, 2008, the local municipality entered a collaboration agreement with the authority of Cahul, Cahul - Moldova.
“The agreement with Favara represents the first twinning relationship established by the local authority with a city from a European Union member country”, said Mr. Mayor Marian Iordache. “By signing the agreement, we once again value our quality as a member in the great EU family” said the mayor.
