Between 19 and 23 April 2010 the ninth edition of National Volunteer Week takes places. At the city level, the action is at the fourth edition and is organized by the Community Welfare Service of the City Hall of Medgidia and Resource Centre, together with the “Medgidia Volunteers” Association and the “With People” Association in Medgidia. National Volunteer Week began in Medgidia with a press conference and a debate on the importance of voluntary actions and involvement of more people in starting and carrying out acts of charity. Teachers from Medgidia Schools took part, members of foundations and associations and representatives of local Community Welfare Service of the City Hall of Medgidia. In the first part of the meeting was presented this week’s program, a program that includes various voluntary actions, which involves both volunteer members and students from local institutions.
The discussion was attended by Deputy Mayor of Medgidia, Mr. Sorin ?u?uianu, who assured the members of the associations of support for their actions, while considering their involvement in community life. “We still have not implemented the concept of volunteering as in other countries, but time is not lost if we work together and mobilize we can align with the leading states in the volunteering chapter. You have to convince people, especially young people, to accept the idea that volunteering is a job that one does voluntarily, a job that does not involve material rewards but in turn gives you a better moral and state of mind”, said Mr. Deputy.
All those present in the boardroom of the City Hall have found the meeting today as very useful, but also the whole week dedicated to volunteering, because members of associations and foundations can learn and exchange ideas that can lead to constructive actions beneficial to the community. It was considered the idea of organizing a “bank” of household objects, where one can donate various household items that many families no longer consider necessary, but may be useful to others, and the idea of a Volunteer Community Development Area.
